Cello LESSONS
Esther has taught cello since 1997. Her experience ranges from public and private school general music and string orchestra to Suzuki and Creative Arts ages 3-90.

What are some Things That Are Important to Esther as a Teacher?

Personality. Each individual comes to music with a unique experience, goal, body type, and situation in life which affects their way of learning both negatively and positively. Taking some time to get to know a student will often avoid road blocks and enhance learning.

Physicality. The way a person exists with their instrument affects their physical longevity, sound quality, and ability to communicate. Each body is different and finding the path to relaxed, strong, and healthy playing is vital.

Creativity. A student who is solving their own problems and having fun will be the most productive.

Improvisation. Esther uses improvisation within lessons as a tool to teach theory, structure, technique, listening, musicality, and sound quality.  Esther also believes that improvisation is a legitimate and valuable form of music study and performance.

Accountability. Progress in instrumental music happens mostly over a long continuum of time spent in action with the instrument. Keeping track of time, how it is used and spent, helps to focus the time and work which is necessary to move forward.

Detail. Helping students to focus on and separate out the elements which make up the whole helps them to navigate difficulties and make progress.

Esther specializes in teaching cello to teenage - adult students.
